Rotary Club

The first Rotary club of Mauritius
Officially admitted to Rotary International on 9 November 1964, our Club was the first Rotary one to be set up in Mauritius. The founder President was Aunauth Beejadhur, for Rotary year 1964-1965.

For a detailed history of the club:
The right mix
The Rotary Club of Port Louis has about forty members, with a unique mix of members who have been active since the 1970s and 1980s and of members inducted in more recent decades as well as in the past and ongoing year. We also support the Rotaract Club of Port Louis and the Interact Club of Royal College of Port Louis.

Our weekly statutory meetings

Our Club meets at lunchtime every Wednesday, at Marina Garden restaurant in Caudan (Port Louis), from 12h30 to 13h30. Visiting Rotarians from Mauritius and other countries are welcome. Please contact us on Messenger through our Facebook page, or via email: cecile.leongson@rotaryportlouis.com
We also support the Rotaract Club of Port Louis and the Interact Club of Royal College of Port Louis.
What we stand for
The Rotary Club of Port Louis upholds high values of integrity, respect, fellowship and sound management, in line with Rotary International’s Four-Way Test. Our Club is also proud of its mix of members from very diverse professional and social backgrounds, and genders.

The Club’s Projects

Some of the Club’s projects have been in existence for years but every year activities are reviewed and new needs identified (please know more about the existing projects in the Projects page). Major past projects have included Métiers d’Art, Solidarité sur Roue, Fleurir Maurice and Culture Sharing for Peace and Unity.

The Club can do only a limited amount on its own and many projects can only be realised as a result of help from others, such as teachers and social workers, and with the support of public bodies and individual and private-sector sponsors – and, when appropriate, from the beneficiaries themselves.

One of the advantages the Club brings to projects is the involvement of members in project management and ensuring that funds are well spent and results achieved.
